The office party

There are two kinds of work party – the after-hours drinks and the fully Monty.
If it’s a trip to the local at 5pm or straight out for dinner from your desk, it’s more about understated glam. Something you’re comfortable in during the day and that still feels fun for the evening.
Faux leather trousers, palazzo pants or wide-leg trousers are all great for this. Team with a satin blouse for Christmas shimmer, throw over a blazer and you’re ready to go – all you need is a quick trip to the powder room to turn up the volume on your make-up.
If the office party is a full-blown evening affair, it’s fun to shed the workwear and showcase just how fabulous you can look outside of the 9-5 drill.
For this, you’re going to need a party dress. But beware - you want to turn heads, not raise eyebrows, so remember it’s still a ‘work’ event. Avoid anything too risky that threatens to flash more than you’ve bargained for. Sexy but classy is the key. If you go for legs out, look for a mini dress with long sleeves or a higher neckline. Or if you prefer a more plunging neckline, take the length down to midi to balance things out. The pleated sleeve midi dress from AX Paris is perfect.

Fizz with friends

Can Christmas even start before you do cocktails with friends? For this think fun flirty dresses, to take you anywhere.
Go classic with a little black dress, or feed the festive vibe with forest greens, rich reds or even purple! Vesper’s Bordeaux Midaxi dress is the answer to any event. In a gorgeous purple shade, it’s cut from this season’s favourite, velvet, and has Christmas classic written all over it.

Formally festive

Plus one to your BAE’s black tie party? Want to make sure you impress? Strictly speaking, a black tie do for women means a full-length gown, but these days a midi dress or anything that oozes sophistication is generally deemed ok.
An invite to a formal Christmas party is a great excuse to really get your Yuletide glam on. The more sequins and shimmer the better - if you can’t sparkle at Christmas, when can you?

The family do

Sipping sherry with long-lost aunties. Being force-fed vol au vents. Taking part in overly competitive charades. Nothing says Christmas quite like the family get-together.
Festive themed knits are perfect party wear here but if novelty jumpers aren’t quite your style try plain or cable knits in merry shades instead.
For fancier family affairs, you can’t go wrong with a knit dress – check out ONLY’s high neck knit dress in light brown – and the mocha maxi from Girl in Mind.

The morning after

One eggnog too many?
Don’t forget the morning after! When it’s time to hunker down with a Christmas movie and a selection box, you’re going to need your festive pjs or comfy loungewear so you can snuggle up in style…and try to forget about just how much you overshared with your boss last night!

Can you wear jeans to a Christmas party?

Yes…although there is a but!
Be sure to check the party dress code. If it’s not clear from the invite, ask around to get a feel for what others are wearing. There are fewer rules these days and jeans can be a great outfit option – especially if your party is something more active, at the local pub or during the day, but you don’t want to rock up in jeans if the venue has a no denim policy - so do your research!
If jeans are your happy place, don’t be put off wearing them - just add some sparkle.  Something a bit more dressy on top, bold accessories, or glittery make-up…it is Christmas after all.
